Crowd-funding for Dutch Wind Turbine Complete in Just 13 Hours

Setting a new record for a crowd-funding project, the electricity shares for a Vestas produced wind turbine sold out in a matter of hours to around 1700 Dutch shareholders. The shares, priced at 200 Euros each, raised a total of around 1.3 million for the project, which was put together by a Dutch wind turbine purchasing company called Windcentrale.

Each share is said to produce around 500kWh of clean electricity annually, and is sourced from a Vestas V80 2-MW turbine located in Culemborg. These turbines that are setup by Windcentrale, are mostly older models that are purchased form areas such as project developers, energy companies, and financial institutions. Each share system is designed with its individual co-operative ownership structure, and a yearly cost of 23 Euros is charged to shareholders for maintenance. These shareholders can then download a phone app which monitors wind speeds and energy production for the particular turbine they have a stake in.
